What’s the recipe for a great comedian? Take over 17 years of joke-telling experience, add quick wit, hilarious stories, and high energy. Simmer with a warm, inviting smile, solid writing chops, and a commanding stage presence. Season with clever anecdotes, a touch of crowd work, and a hint of misdirection. Remove profanity and offensive material. Allow to bake in Florida sunshine for five years. What do you have?
Comedian Michael Parenti.
Michael traded the Big Apple for oranges as he brought his unique comedy style from New York City to Florida. He was born in Queens and lived in the Empire State pretty much his whole life. He’s got the look of a typical New Yorker. At first glance, you might suspect that he was hired by central casting to play a pizzeria owner or mafia informant on the latest network television drama. He talks with a pronounced New York accent and he emphasizes every important point with his hands. Sauce and comedy flow side by side through his veins. But he is so much more than that.
When he started performing stand-up, he noticed that in comedy, there were often two camps: funny and clean. Michael thought, why not be both? He realized there was a need to span that gap, so he did. He works without profanity or vulgar material which makes him perfect for corporate, church, and fundraiser shows. But he is also funny, first and foremost. He has a great sense of timing and can leave any audience rolling in the aisles. He is the best of both worlds.
Michael has been seen at the Long Island Comedy Festival and Long Island Laughs and he has performed at the top clubs in New York City and beyond. He has opened for Adam Ferrara and Mike DeStefano from Last Comic Standing. In addition to performing, he has also mentored new up-and-coming comedians at Samantha’s Lil Bit of Heaven, where he headlined a monthly “Squeaky Clean Comedy Night.” He believes in giving back whenever he can.
He is not only a talented performer but also a successful producer of comedy shows. He starred, produced, and performed “Chesterfields,” one of the longest-running and most successful showcase spots in Long Island. He also co-founded Comedy to Go Inc., a company designed to cater to the community’s comedy needs. This company put on hundreds of shows and fundraisers ranging from corporate events, comedy clubs, fundraisers, and church outreach programs to family reunions. He even produced a 2000-seat sold-out show at the Tillis Center for Performing Arts, bringing comedy legend Jackie Mason to town. Apparently, he is almost as good at producing shows as he is at producing laughs.
Michael has been married for 30 years and has three sons. He playfully talks about all of them onstage, sharing hilarious stories of his marriage and family life. In fact, his youngest son, Andrew, a talented comedian in his own right, opens up for him at most of his shows. For the Parentis, laughter truly is a family business!
In the right hands, specifically Michael Parenti’s hands, comedy can create an entire buffet of laughs. Humor is the food that feeds the soul after all. It can be fun, exciting, and downright deliciously hilarious. No matter the occasion, if you are hungry for a great show that is appropriate for the whole family, look no further. You won’t be disappointed.
